The project

Digital Innovative Media Publishing for All (DIMPA) offers an online, open-source training course in the form of a MOOC and associated teaching resources.

Six types of new media are addressed, including augmented reality, virtual reality, 360° video and enriched publications, which are conquering our screens and our cultural and professional practices, revolutionizing the way we produce and consult content.

Context

Digital skills are now as important as the ability to read or write to remain employable in an increasingly digital workplace. Digital skills are used and expected in over 90% of jobs, in all professional sectors. However, the European Union faces a major digital skills challenge. According to a fact sheet published in September 2017 by the European Commission (“A digital Europe needs digital skills”), only 56% of Europeans aged 16 to 75 have basic digital skills.

A major trend in the digitalisation of the labour market is the massive publishing of digital multimedia content, gradually replacing traditional printed documents or opening the way to new types of publication.

Augmented reality, virtual reality, 360° video, enriched publications are conquering our screens, our cultural and professional practices and thus revolutionizing the way we produce and consult content.

However, although professionals come into contact with these new forms of enriched content on an almost daily basis in their professional and personal lives, few of them are aware of their means of production, their cost, their use…

Objectives

These new technologies are often perceived as complex, expensive and reserved for specialists, and we are often reluctant or even anxious when asked to use them or implement them in a company. The lack of knowledge of easy-to-use design tools increases the gap between the “specialists” or “geeks” and the professional community.

DIMPA offers a set of resources on the practices and tools of the 6 main technologies involved in the publication and distribution of augmented content: EPUB 3, Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, 360° Video, Interactive Video and augmented printed material.

Targets

The project targets learners of all ages involved in the professional training sectors, including trainers and teachers.
