The project
For years, the tourist trend was for travelers to visit the centre of the big cities, which gave them a certain prestige. Today, it is noticeable that visitors are gradually moving away from these centres to the suburbs and outskirts of these cities.
But how can we find, name and give attractiveness to the outskirts of big cities? Where can you find inspiration for offbeat trips, far from those promoted by all the guidebooks, far from the “mainstream”?
The DiOtherCity project aims to experiment this type of travel by designing a learning programme for professionals in the cultural and creative industries, as well as local people, who will design and implement unusual urban tours using digital devices.
Objectives
The aim of DiOtherCity is to design, test and deliver an adult education programme for professionals in the cultural and creative industries (CCI) who want to learn about the practical applications of digital technologies in order to design innovative cultural experiences in their city, especially in peripheral spaces. The project is based on the development of an open set of educational resources that will enable local stakeholders to create and conduct their own visits to unusual and “off” sites in the city, while developing new awareness and perspectives off the beaten track in the urban landscape.
Targets
The project is aimed primarily at people working in the cultural and creative industries, particularly those who are unemployed, have short-term jobs or are looking to develop new skills.
